The Project.

Filled with natural light, this new early learning centre in Clayton, Melbourne called for a warm, open environment that reflected its Reggio Emilia-inspired approach.

Floor-to-ceiling windows became a beautiful focal point of the centre, bringing light across the natural timbers, soft textures and fluted furniture throughout the space.

From the initial concept and childcare floorplan through to 3D visualisation, delivery and final set-up, Preschool Equipment worked closely with the client to bring their vision for the new centre to life.

The Brief.

We sat down with the client to understand their vision for the new early learning centre and how they wanted each space to feel.

Together, we established a clear interior direction built around solid hardwood, fluted textures and a warm, natural colour palette. These elements became the foundation for the furniture selections and overall look of the centre.

Childcare Floorplan Design.

Understanding the Clayton centre’s Reggio Emilia-inspired, play-based approach was an important part of planning the flow and functionality of the floorplan.

We created open, connected spaces with clearly defined areas for different types of play, while maintaining freedom of movement throughout the centre. Furniture and open-ended resources were then selected to complement the layout and create an environment children could explore with greater independence throughout the day.

3D Visualisation.

Before the fitout began, we created an interactive 3D visualisation of the proposed floorplan, giving the client the opportunity to explore the space before making their final selections.

Different furniture arrangements and layouts could be viewed and compared using panoramic walkthroughs and aerial dollhouse views. This provided a clear picture of how each room would come together and allowed the finer details to be considered well before installation.

Final Outcome.

The completed centre has beautiful natural light that pours through the floor-to-ceiling windows, complementing the hardwood furniture, soft curves and neutral palette throughout the space.
