Small Blocks

You May Also Like.

Before children build cubby houses, before they build friendships even, most of them build with small blocks. Small wooden blocks are often a child’s first real toy. And there’s a reason they’ve never gone out of style in early learning settings: they’re the perfect size for little hands.

Built for little hands, built for learning

Small wooden blocks build the skills that matter early on: hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, focus, and the patience to keep going when a tower topples. It’s the kind of play that ticks boxes around cognitive development without the need for a lesson.

How do educators use small blocks?

Set up as a dedicated section for independent construction, or with figurines and loose parts for small-world play. Whether you want to guide construction activities or leave it completely open-ended, our small blocks work at any stage of your classroom.

Durability and care

Our small wooden blocks are built to last. They handle years of use; their natural finishes deepen through countless hands building and creating. They’re simple to clean and made to last generations, making them a worthwhile investment.

Many educators stock a mix of miniature blocks. Our small blocks can accompany large designs, and sensory sets can be brought in too. Have a browse below, or head back to our construction range for the full picture.

FAQs

What age group are small blocks suitable for?
From around 2 years and up. Toddlers should be supervised, but small blocks stay useful right through to school age.
Are cube blocks different from small blocks?
Cube blocks are uniform, six-sided pieces for counting, sorting, and patterning activities. Small blocks are less about a single shape and more about scale (anything sized for little hands counts).
What makes little wooden blocks a better buy than plastic ones?
Wooden blocks shrug off years of daily handling in a way plastic rarely does. No cracking, no fading, no snapped corners.
Can miniature blocks support group learning, or are they mainly solo play?
Both, really. They're a natural fit for solo play, but drop in a task card or a simple design challenge and they work just as well for small groups.
